Good Product; Love the ease of use Review by JaxJaguar
Price Value Quality I purchased a Crucial SSD and used the included Apricorn software and cable. Process could not have been easier. Instructions are very easy to understand. Entire process from start to finish was a snap; took about 25 minutes. Popped in the ssd and I was off to the races. Thank You Apricorn. (Posted on 4/18/13)

Couldn't be more satisfied! Review by FunkJustice
Price Value Quality I don't normally write reviews, but I was in a bad spot with my hard drive and needed to get all of my data and OS over to a new one quickly. I had tried EZ gig III but had not had any success. EZ gig IV did the work flawlessly.
One word of caution: on the first step of the cloning process, it got to 99% done in about a minute then stayed at 99% for a WHILE. Don't give up, I just went to sleep and in the morning, everything was done. (Posted on 4/14/13) -
Fast, easy and reliable Review by Philico
Price Value Quality I agree with the general consensus here that this product really works! I too tried many other cloning solutions but either their interface was too clunky and most likely written by geeks for geeks and / or the cloned drive never booted. This is all history. This product clones anything to anything. Most of my cloned drives are smaller size SSDs than their cloned counterparts and this product has no issues in doing what it has to do to get the job completed. And it does it fast too: With the USB 2 interface it can clone a 100GB OS drive in less than an hour. (Posted on 4/7/13)

Excellent product but... Review by Power User
Value Quality Price It is a powerful and useful product but it will not boot with HP computers such as dc7800 and 6200. (Posted on 3/30/13)

Excellent product Review by Kismetix
Price Value Quality Copied my Intel 80GB SSD boot drive onto a Crucial m4 256GB SSD using this software. It was very easy to use, no gimmicks or fluff, and did exactly what I needed it to do. The data transfer went off without any problem at all, and the new M4 drive worked immediately after installation. I thought the disk swap process was going to be a difficult and long drawn out process, and I had been putting it off for as long as possible until I bought the M4 (which came with the EZ Gig IV Cloning Software). The Gig IV cloning software and Crucial's excellent 256GB M4 made the upgrade quick, pleasant and straightforward. (Posted on 3/24/13)

Awesome! Review by The Swede
Price Value Quality I cloned my 7200 rpm hard disk, in my IMB-Lenovo Z61p laptop, to an Intel X-25M 160 GB SSD. I then just swapped them and rebooted without any problems, just like before BUT much faster. The Apricorn EZ Gig III (or now IV) SATA Wire kit, is a very affordable, easy and reliable product. I can't imagine a better and more convenient product than this, thanks a lot for this product!! (Posted on 3/4/13)

Works Great On newer hard Drives Review by Steve

Great Product Review by Frazzled
Price Value Quality Finally, a cloning product that does what it says it will. No if's and's or buts. Previously I tried ALL of the most popular cloning software out there to no avail. Either there was some problem while booting from the recovery media, or you had to purchase the more expensive "plus" version to get a nice GUI boot menu to allow the copy process to proceed. After cloning, probably 80% of the time the disk would not boot (particularly on my Dell).
Your product worked perfectly the first time w/o any hiccups. I am a happy camper :-) (Posted on 1/27/13) -

I love this product, worth the money Review by Mike In Phoenix
Price Value Quality My elderly mothers' hard drive decided to stop working, so I came to the rescue (so I thought). After wasting two entire days and the better part of a third, I decided to visit my neighborhood electronics store and see if I might get some advice from one of their techies, but before anyone came to my assistance, I happened across this little gem... Apricorn’s "Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade Kit". Included in the kit are an exceptionally nice hard drive enclosure, a USB to mini-USB cable, and their "EZ Gig III for Windows" software, along with a suite of other software products designed especially for cloning. This product, in addition to some sound advice from Brandon at Apricorn, resulted in a rewarding experience replacing my first-ever hard drive. I didn't have to reload the operating system, any software, or any data. I couldn't be more pleased (and my mother was quite excited, too). Thank you!

This worked flawlessly Review by Epayne
Value Quality Price I purchased the Drive Wire kit from Microcenter. It came with EZ-Gig III. I was upgrading a 160GB 4200RPM HD on my Compaq laptop. I had read in another review that the HP & Compaq didn't like some earlier versions of EZ-Gig so I downloaded EZ-Gig IV from your sight. I ran it right from windows and it cloned to a 500GB 7200RPM Seagate flawlessly in about 55 minutes; no read or write erros. I took my old drive out & put the new one in and it booted right up as if nothing had changed. Now I just have way more space on a much faster drive. I thought about manually adjusting the partitions using the software right before cloning but thought I would just give it a go on the automatic setting. Like I said, it worked great. The only thing I would change is that the recovery partion went from 10GB on the old drive to 30GB on the new drive which is really bigger than I need but otherwise, perfect. Thanks for the Great Product!

Product FAQs
How does EZ Gig clone if the Source and Destination drives are of EQUAL size?
How does EZ Gig clone if the Source drive is SMALLER than the Destination drive?
How does EZ Gig clone if the Source drive is LARGER than the Destination drive?

What is the buffer size for?
What should I do if the EZ GIG software is displaying an error indicating the block sizes are not compatible?
This error means that EZ GIG cannot determine the block size of one of the hard disks to be cloned. The only method to get past this error is for the user to clone the drives “backwards” (Steps provided below). This means that the drive being cloned from (Source) must be connected directly to the Apricorn adapter via USB and the drive being cloned to (Destination) must be connected internally in the PC onto the motherboard. Since the original drive cannot be booted to at this time, the user must boot directly to the EZ GIG CD by selecting their boot menu key and then the CDROM device at startup. When asked to select the Source and Destination, the Source will be the drive on the Apricorn adapter (usually disk 2), and the Destination will be the drive inside the PC (usually disk 1).
If the previous suggestion does not help, we recommend using an Apricorn USB 3.0 upgrade kit. Our USB 3.0 upgrade kits can be found here: http://www.apricorn.com/products/notebook-hard-drive-upgrade-kits.html
WARNING: While booted from the EZ GIG bootable CD, it is very important for you to know that it is possible to accidentally overwrite (delete) the data on your hard drive. To prevent such an accident, be very careful to pick your old hard drive (now currently attached to the USB port) as the Source drive, and that the Destination drive (now mounted internal to the PC) is your new blank hard drive. If you are uncertain of the Source and Destination, stop and call our tech support. Apricorn cannot be held responsible for your data loss, and we want to do everything possible to help prevent such loss.
Procedure to clone drives “backwards”.
Please read the instructions completely before starting:
If your product came with Apricorn’s bootable CD, proceed to “Shut down the computer”.
Create the bootable CD.
- While booted in Windows, launch the EZ GIG application, and select the option to “Create Bootable Media”.
- Insert a blank CD or DVD into your optical drive.
- Follow the steps to create the bootable media.
Shut down the computer and switch the hard drives.
- Shut down the computer, and remove the hard drive from inside your computer and connect it to the Apricorn device you purchased (refer to your computer manufacturer’s manual for specific instructions on how to remove the internal drive).
- Take your new (blank) hard drive and install it in your computer, connected to the motherboard.
Boot from the CD:
- Follow your computer manufacturer’s instructions for changing the boot order. Often times, pressing the F12 key during computer startup will bring up a boot menu that allows you to choose the CD as the boot device.
- Once booted, EZ GIG will display a listing of hard drives it finds in the computer. You will find that your old hard drive is listed as USB. Select it as your Source and click “Next”.
- When choosing the Destination, the Source drive you selected in step 2 will be greyed out. Your new drive will be displayed by Model and Size, and will be selectable. Choose the new drive as the Destination, and then click the Next button.
- Complete the EZ GIG cloning wizard by clicking “Next”. EZ GIG will challenge you one last time and ask you to verify the Source and Destination. Once you are confident you have selected correctly, click “Start Clone”.
Finished:
- The cloning process usually finishes in a few minutes. Once completed, you should eject the CD from the optical drive.
- Then shut down the computer using the Power button on the computer.
- Disconnect the USB Apricorn device.
Turn on the computer, which will now boot from the new hard drive.
