The hard drive on my Sony laptop was showing signs of imminent failure. I tried several software solutions to back up to an external hard drive. All of them were fairly complicated and did not work due to errors on my hard drive. I remembered hearing about a product years ago that could hook two computers together and transfer data. I did a yahoo search and discovered your product.

I booted from the included CD and followed the instructions to clone my internal HD to my new Western Digital external. The process took about 3 hours for a little under 200GB of data.

At the end of the process, the software indicated that the clone had failed due to hard drive errors. It suggested running a check disk and starting the process again. Having just run check disk, and a bunch of other disk checks, I decided to just plug in the new hard drive to see what would happen.

01) downloaded EZGIGIV.ISO from www.apricorn.com
02) made bootable CD
03) went to store, purchased 640GB drive & Apricorn Upgrade kit
04) connected Apricorn USB/SATA cable to laptop
05) connected 640GB drive to Apricorn USB/SATA cable
06) booted from EZGIGIV CD created in step #2 above
07) selected option to clone drive ( use automatic resizing )
08) 2.0 hours later cloning completed
09) powered laptop off
10) removed battery & AC
11) removed 250GB internal drive
12) installed 640GB new drive
13) put battery back & AC
14) powered system up

I've paid substantially more for well known brand name products that are inferior !!!
( Inferior is understatement, they're horrible and waste your time & money )

* They didn't work at all
* They didn't work per documentation
* Or had to waste time to make it work
* Sometimes, their own technical support couldn't make it work

While I cloned from smaller to larger disk, software claims can do following:

1) clone to same size disk
2) clone from smaller to larger disk
3) clone from larger to smaller disk
4) clone from SATA to SSD

When cloning to smaller disk it has option in software to select folders you don't
want included in clone. You can't select any folder, you can select folders it presents
to you, IE: music, video, pictures, documents, etc...
( non-essential folders / data - items not required to boot system or make applications work )

You may ask, why would anyone want to clone to a smaller disk? Good question.
Answer: You may want to move from SATA drive to SSD drive. SSD's are faster,
but typically smaller ( has less capacity ).

Five days later system still running fine.

Process went so smoothly, I purchased two more 750GB laptop drives.
I'm going to:
1) create backup drive of most important laptop
2) upgrade drive on another laptop

I'm simply over-joyed that the software works...

I've spent days with other vendors software which i won't name
1) attempting to figure it out on my own
2) talking with their customer support while professional, couldn't get it to work

Apricorn has set new standard for easy of cloning

Minor detail:
* some products had to be reactivated
* software thought I was trying to pirate / steal
* could be problem, depending on your software

This product delivers !!! It LITERALLY DOES WHAT THEY SAID IT WOULD DO, FIRST TIME, FLAWLESSLY, WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS..

This product simply rocks...

Absolutely nothing better for cloning drives.

I've tried Norton Ghost which used to work 7 years ago, but isn't any good since...

I've tried windows backups to images, but there's no easy way to restore it to new drive

This product is the absolute easiest, safest, simplest software to use to clone drives.
a) copy everything from one drive to another then boot
b) copy two drives that are same size
c) copy smaller drive to larger drive
d) i didn't try copying larger drive to smaller, so not sure how that works...

01) i downloaded EZGigIV.iso
02) made a bootable CD
03) went to store, purchased SATA Wire 2.5 upgrade kit cable
04) connected USB to 2.5 Sata cable
06) connected new drive 640GB to USB/SATA cable
07) booted from CD created in step #2 above
08) selected option to clone drive
09) cloning finished 2:00 hrs later
10) removed battery
11) removed original drive 300GB
12) installed new drive 640GB
13) installed battery
14) booted system and it came up flawlessly no issues

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS UPGRADE KIT...

BUT more importantly I RECOMMEND EZGIGIV software.

I suspect any cable would do; however, it's the software that makes this work...

To be on safe side, i'd suggest getting cable since i know it works... Saving $19 isn't much compared to time and frustration of working out other manufactures bugs...

EZGIGIV is the best cloning software ever...

I haven't tried cloning from life system ( while booted in O/S )...

However, cloning while booted from CD worked exactly as i would expect.
