Apricorn’s Aegis Secure Key Now Rated Even Tougher
Crush Resistant Aluminum Casing Now Certified Against Dust and Water
Poway, CA – February 27th, 2013 – After receiving its FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Validation for security, Apricorn’s Aegis Secure Key has now received an additional certification for Water and Dust Resistance, the IP57 certification. The Ingress Protection (IP) rating is an international standard that tests electrical products against two main environmental factors, liquids and dust. The testing is done independently by a 3rd party and involves two separate tests. In order to receive the certification, the Aegis Secure Key was subjected to a dust chamber for 8 hours and submerged in a water tank at 1 meter for 30 minutes, after which the Secure Key was tested for functionality, and inspected for water and dust in its electronics.
“The FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validation speaks volumes about protecting data in routine government, military, forensics, finance, and healthcare applications”, said Mike McCandless, VP of Sales and Marketing. “However, protecting data often goes well beyond encryption. Combining the IP57 certification to the crush resistant aluminum case will broaden the applications for the Aegis Secure Key, and provide additional assurance that the data is protected and available when needed.”
